WIN! A night for 2 including breakfast at the trendy Protea Hotel Fire & Ice, Melrose Arch
The hotel is urban and contemporary and it just oozes old hollywood glamour. Its aimed at a “young at heart” crowd, and attract loads of foreigners as well as locals.
Once we had checked in, we got into the lift and saw that you have to insert your card into the lift for it to operate. I liked that a lot- even though the hotel is a hang out spot, you don’t want your privacy to be compromised if you are staying over with random drunk people wandering through the corridors.
I had a look through the hotel before going to the room. There is a deli that is perfectly placed for people watching. They have all sorts of light meals and yummy afternoon tea goodies. The layout is also really different.
There’s also an uber luxurious WiFi lounge area where you can chill out and catch up on some emails over coffee.
The room is airy and bright- and very open plan. There was a welcome note + choccies waiting for us- how sweet!
There was also a voucher for 2 milkshakes from the Bar, which I thought was a really nice touch.
The room is equipped with everything you’ll need to make your stay comfy, a king size bed with super soft linen, an LCD tv with dstv, complimentary shower gel, soap and lotion and free tea/coffee making facilities.
I had a “Hot Ice” (iced hot chocolate) and my hubby had a “Peanana Nutter” (peanut and banana). The milkshakes are HUGE. We also had a yummy platter with nacho’s, cocktail pizzas + zucchini fritters and then called it a night.
I only woke up the next morning at around 9:30am (if you know me, you’ll know this is VERY rare- I’m an early riser). We headed down to breakfast and were presented with a huge spread.
I have to admit that when I arrived home, I really was inspired to improve the decor in my house, after staying at F&I, it seemed like it was lacking bigtime!
SO NOW….. I bet you’re all wondering how you get to win this awesome prize 🙂
It’s very simple:

Oh wow this place looks AMAZING!!!I am now following your blog:)
I read about a Strawberry Waffle Milkshake, which looks as delicious as it tastes!
Close your eyes and imagine: toast 2 frozen waffles until crisp and lightly browned before grinding in a food processor. Then blend with 2 Tbsp strawberry preserves (or ¼ cup chopped fresh or frozen strawberries), ½ cup half and half, 1 cup vanilla or strawberry ice cream, 1 Tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp honey and ¼ tsp vanilla extract until well mixed. Top with whipped cream and toasted chopped walnuts or pecans. Ta daaaaa!
I have tweeted you,and I am a follower on twitter:)
