Irene Country Lodge

This past weekend, I was invited to go to Irene Country Lodge on a site visit to experience it. WHAT a treat. I’m a a big fan of driving an hour or so out of JHB and feeling like you’re miles away. Irene Country Lodge is in Centurion, about 25 minutes aways from my house in Rivonia, but it feels like you’re in the country far far away.

The gardens are beautiful. The hotel organized a picnic basket for us and we sat by the lake and watched the ducks while having our picnic. So relaxing!

Every room overlakes the gorgeous lake, and there is so much to do in the area. Every second Saturday there’s a MASSIVE market about 2km away from the Lodge. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever been to- you can get all sorts of “markety” things like clothes, home decor, food etc

You can’t go to a market and not have a pancake!

In addition to the Market, you can also explore Irene Dairy Farm– where you can watch the cows being milked, or have a great farmstyle meal.
The Lodge is great for kids as well, there’s plenty of entertainment, including a jumping castle on weekends and a “kids room” filled with toys and games.

The food is of a high standard, there’s a wide variety at each meal. Dinner is buffet at times and is a la carte at less busy times.
If you’re in need of some down time, there is an absolutely gorgeous spa called Camdeboo on the property. I’m going to do a separate blog post about this soon, and you can stand a chance to win a voucher for 2 people to use at the spa. So keep a close eye on this blog!
I think this is really affordable and convenient as a weekend getaway- I felt totally spoilt and relaxed once I left. If you don’t want to spend the night, it’s worth visiting for a sit down lunch in the restaurant or even a picnic, just to get that “country” feel.
Hope you all have a splendid Easter weekend!
