When I used to work in Sandton, we were very limited in terms of lunch options so I think the Hilton’s terrace is a great addition to the lunchtime scene. I love garden restaurants, and there are so few in Jozi- it’s actually sad. Going outdoors and lunching in a garden setting (as opposed to a mall) puts me in a good mood immediately. There’s actually direct access to the terrace from Rivonia Road, so you don’t have to enter through the Hilton’s main entrance.
The Hilton has just recruited a new executive chef who has significant experience in the industry, even working alongside Gordon Ramsay! Along with traditional South African favs like lamb curry, the Terrace at Tradewinds will offer fresh soups, salads, the hotel’s signature focaccia sandwich and its special thin-crust pizza. It is open from 08:00-20:00 daily. The prices aren’t hotel-esque at all. Expect to pay R60ish for a BIG sandwich or salad and R70ish for a pizza. The food’s all really good and the open kitchen allows you to watch it being made in front of you. We were given a tasting menu so tried tiny portions of the menu.

I went at night, so forgive the bad lighting in this pic- it really doesn’t do justice to the ambiance. Go and try it out while the weather’s good! There are even couches so you can order drinks and relax before sitting down to your food.
Btw, if you’re a sushi lover, you HAVE to go to their sushi school on Friday nights. Honestly, I didn’t even eat sushi before going to this class- it converted me into an addict! I actually went again a few weeks ago and took my sis and bro in law along- SUCH fun. Read my post on it here.
