The best red velvet cupcakes in Jozi- Belle’s Patisserie

Monday, again! I haven’t had the easiest few weeks with my dad being ill (he has been diagnosed with lung cancer)- I’m very worried about him. Luckily my friend Pratika is getting married in PE next weekend, so I’ll have an opportunity to visit then, and I’m hoping to go home more regularly after that. I’m trying to just keep busy and carry on with life as normal- wallowing in misery really isn’t going to help anyone. So as far as possible, I’m going to try to blog regularly- I’ve been doing loads of reviews for the Sunday Independent and have really found some gems.

In my quest to find the 3 best patisseries for my last SI story, I went to Belle’s in Blubird, Birnam (across from Melrose Arch), to try out their goodies. Belle’s is situated where Charlotte Rhys used to be and the store is so pretty and girly 🙂

These guys supply cakes to everyone who’s anyone in the cake business. I don’t want to mention names (because these guys don’t like people to know that they don’t bake their cakes themselves), but if you go to a restaurant (not a bakery) for their cake, there’s a
90% chance that cake comes from Belle’s. I’m talking all the top restaurants and cafes in Sandton/ Hyde Park. In addition, they also do cakes and cupcakes for any occasion, using only the finest ingredients- their butter is imported from France! They bake their own breads as well; the breakfast we enjoyed was utterly scrumptious.
I haven’t tasted a red velvet cupcake better than this.. Mmmm

As you can see from the pics below, the portions are very generous and the sandwiches are priced reasonably (R50-R60).

All the “delights” we tasted were completely decadent and delicious, I’ll definitely be back. In fact, I could use some cupcakes right now… I’m hoping if Belle’s read this and are feeling generous they’ll oblige 😉
