The 5 Best Massages in Joburg
1. Rain Urban Boutique Spa, Rosebank
While hot stone back neck and shoulder massages are my thing, there are other people who like feet. Or legs. What I love about Rain (I’m going to do a complete post about them soon because their concept is great), is that there’s a set price, with the only variable being time. A 60 minute massage is priced at R475, and you can customise this however you want, in terms of pressure, area and technique. If you just want butt and thighs for an hour as a cellulite reduction treatment (they don’t judge), that’s fine. Or, if you want a foot massage with an exfoliation and a mask for the full 60 minutes, that’s totally doable too. They also take appointments till 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays- love. Price: R315 for 30 minutes/ R475 for 60 minutes/ R620 for 90 minutes (45/ 75 mins available too)

2. The Saxon Spa, Sandhurst
What’s not to love about the Saxon? I’ve been obsessed with this hotel since my first visit, so it’s a given that I’m going to be a fan of anything extra they offer, be it a high tea (which I’m planning to review soon), or their spa. The added amenities in the spa are wonderful- indoor + outdoor pools, steam room, outdoor showers (but all super premium), and the spa just feels luxurious. The relaxation areas are intimate, and the gowns are big, fluffy and decadent.
Price: Aroma Hot Stone- R890 for 60 minutes, R990 for 90 minutes

3. Enmasse, Illovo
Read a complete review of the Enmasse experience here. In a nutshell, this is a completely different experience to the usual oil massage. I absolutely love dropping by here on a Friday after work, and I often use it as a way to catch up with friends over the complimentary herbal tea offered post massage. You are massaged fully clothed, in the coolest space ever. The whole experience feels very futuristic.
Price: R425 for 60 minutes, but Jozilicious readers get R100 off, so for you, it’s R325 (simply call them and quote “Jozilicious”)

4. The Pyramid Day Spa, Selby
Again, I’ve reviewed this spot in detail- read here. The CBD doesn’t have much anything to offer when it comes to spas, apart from the Pyramid, which is an absolute gem. It’s situated a stone’s throw from my office in town, making a 30 minute treatment totally doable during my lunch hour. The waiting areas are divine, as are the treatments. In terms of technique, I think this is my favourite spot. (although, by virtue of the fact that they’re included on this list, technique at all these spas is great). They have the most amazing couple rooms, complete with a private Jacuzzi and lounge area- perfect for a special occasion.
Price: R430 for 45 minutes, R550 for 60 minutes

5. Woodlands Wellbeing Spa, Muldersdrift
You can click here to read my review of Woodlands. My massage here was quite a different experience, because it was the first time I’ve been massaged by a man. Who rode in on a motorbike and pulled up right next to my treatment room- wild! Darren was the best masseuse I’ve ever had- no one even compares. The setting (glass walled private treatment rooms on the banks of the Crocodile River) contributes to relaxation- a massage at Woodlands is more like a day out than just a quick treatment.

I feel like I should also include Skin Sense in Rivonia because their technique is of top 5 quality, but the spa itself is a bit of a dump and is in need of a makeover so even though I go there quite often, I can’t wholeheartedly recommend it to you.
Is there a massage spot you love that I need to know about? Let me know!

Try Africology Spa at the Maslow, I loved their massage and they have a light and dark relaxation areas. It’s spacious so you forget you’re in the heart of Sandton in a hotel.

Hasmita, I follow your blog regularly and really enjoy it.
I’m a big spa fan too. I haven’t been to this spa (yet!) but a friend says it’s quite nice: Soulstice Day Spa – http://www.soulsticedayspa.co.za/

Hey Deeksha, I’ve been to Africology for a launch event but haven’t had a massage there yet- will add it to my list!
Anthony: I’ve been to Soulstice and didn’t have a great experience because they made me wait an hour for my appointment 🙁

Lucelle: I’m also a fan, love that they cover you in a duvet! Wish it had more of a spa feel and was less clinical, hence they haven’t made the top 5
Bhavani: I haven’t heard of lavana- will google and pay them a visit!

What a great concept i must say. I recently visited enmasse and i was blown back by the ambiance. The massage was the best I have ever had! I’ll be back in a jiffy. PS your music play list should be sold…so glad you don’t play the normal spa boring music
