The Event Everyone’s Talking About- Woolworths Style By Night

It’s not often that I do follow up blog posts about events- but this one was too amazing not to. Last night, Woolies launched their Winter 2014 collection with their first Style By Night event, held at a venue I love- Turbine Hall. I think the bar was set when we got sent invites saying that the best dressed person would win double return flights to New York. Forget a lucky draw, that’s all you need. Obvs, this got tongues wagging and everyone who was anyone was there last night. Celebs, bloggers, socialites, magazine editors- you name it.

I knew there was no way I could compete with the other fashionistas for the grand prize, but I felt I had to make an effort, so I borrowed a friend’s sock bun tool, gathered all the accessories I own, and created this look.

I invited my friend Anne to be my plus 1, and we both were entranced once we stepped into the venue. Turbine Hall has an underground, mysterious vibe, with hidden tunnels and secret areas. We sipped on champers, gorged on bread (we both don’t eat meat and the canapes weren’t very veggie friendly), and mingled.

Other celebs spotted: Shashi Naidoo, Jena Dover, Bonang (who MC’d, along with Simba), Lalla Hirayama, Minnie Dhlamini

We soon settled down and awaited the fashion show and it was just amazing. It was fresh and edgy with fab music. The RE Jeans section was modelled by dancers, and we were treated to a performance by Chiano Sky, just before DJ Black Coffee hit the decks.  We were treated with Woolies vouchers in our goodie bags, so I’m definitely going to pick up a few of these items for myself. The best thing about this fashion show was that I could actually see myself buying this stuff ‘cos Woolies is more affordable than the clothing I’ve seen at all the other fashion shows I’ve been to.

Here are some of my favourite looks as well as some general snaps of the show. 1404_WW_SDR_1586_CR_w387_h580 1404_WW_SDR_2040_Mimco_w387_h580 1404_WW_SDR_2115_Mimco_w580_h387 1404_WW_SDR_2133_RE_w387_h580 1404_WW_SDR_2262_RE_w580_h386 1404_WW_SDR_1458_StudioW_w387_h580 1404_WW_SDR_1473_StudioW_w387_h580 1404_WW_IMG_0830_WideAngles_w580_h387

I’ve still been struggling with jetlag so left before announcement of the best dressed winner was made, but I was rooting for my friend Emma, who just looked to die for.

And here is a pic of the winner, who will be jetting of to NYC with a partner, flights, accommodation and spending money all covered- WHAT a prize!

Well done to Woolies on a seamless, glam, super fun night.
