If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you’ll know that I’ve been having the time of my life travelling around Asia during my time in Singapore. One of the first trips I did was to Kuala Lumpur, a short 1 hour flight away. It was my first time staying at a Mandarin Oriental property, despite having eaten at restaurants on MO properties in Hong Kong and Paris. After my trip to KL, I also went to Bangkok and reviewed a MO property there. I can now safely say that it is my favourite hotel chain in the world. It’s more than just luxurious- the brand really embodies everything you’d want from a hotel. Knowledgable concierges, handwritten notes in the rooms, and my favourite aspect- a cake shop at every hotel! The great thing about MO is that the restaurants are a key focus of the hotels- so much so that the restaurants attract lots of outside guests because they are so good.
In KL, MO is perfectly situated right next to the Petronas Towers. I found KL to be a grittier version of Singapore, with not too much to do outside of shopping and eating. Since I can’t shop right now, we ate a lot, and had massages 🙂 It always feels like such a treat whenever we leave Singapore, because we can eat and drink to our heart’s content because everything seems so cheap compared to Singapore.
While I probably wouldn’t return to KL, I do recommend it for a fun weekend break. To find out more about MO: visit www.mandarinoriental.com
